Strontium is a commonly, naturally occurring element that was first isolated by Sir Humphry Davy in 1808. Generally found in the form of celestite (SrSO4) and strontianite (SrCO3), the majority of current strontium production is in China, although Spain, Mexico, Turkey, Argentina and Iran are also producers. Strontium compounds are used in cathode ray tubes for colour televisions, as well as in metal alloys for the automotive industry.
